Top Three Bird Dog Breeds
Bird dogs are very valuable to hunters. Choosing the right dog can be very difficult. The top three breeds are the Boykin Spaniel, the Brittany Spaniel, and the Chesapeake Bay Retriever.
The top bird dog breed is the Boykin Spaniel. The dog is named after L.W. “Whit” Boykin, who lived in South Carolina. The dog was bread for hunting on the Wateree River Swamp by the early 1900 settlers for its compact size, which fit into the boats more easily. These dogs which stand about 16 inches tall, and weigh about thirty three pounds are outstanding swimmers. These dogs love to be active and have a very good mind.
The second top bird dog is the Brittany Spaniel. The dog has a long history dating back over 1,800 years, but the modern Brittany Spaniel dates back to 1850 in Pontou, France, when a white and mahogany female was bred to a yellow and white male. This breed is especially known for its speed and great ability to cover a lot of ground. The 
Brittany Spaniel is about an inch taller than the Boykin Spaniel. It also weighs just about 3 pounds more.
The third top bird dog is the Chesapeake Bay Retriever. This dog was bred from two dogs that ended up in Maryland, after an English ship wrecked in 1807. This dog’s coat and skin are made to withstand extremely cold water. The dog stands about twenty five inches tall and weighs about seventy pounds. These dogs are very loyal and can also be very aggressive.
